JOHOR BARU, Oct 19 — Malaysian women are still afraid to open
up with their sexuality, sometimes even covering up the fact that they
are having sex, says Vivian Lee, who is at the centre of a sex blog
debacle.Despite her bravado in revealing her sex life in the “Sumptuous Erotica” blog, Lee confessed that she was brought in up in a slightly conservative family, unlike her partner, National University of Singapore (NUS) law student Alvin Tan.

She also insisted that despite the attention received by her family, her mother had never demanded that she break off her relationship with the 24-year-old Tan, as reported in some Chinese press. “It is not true, my mom didn’t say that,” she explained.
Their blog has since been taken down by the pair, leaving only an archived page with thumbnails of their previous posts dating from September 20 up until October 15, but photographs and videos from the blog have since been circulated by exposé site Gutter Uncensored.
The marketing major graduate from Multimedia University (MMU) in Malacca was baffled by the attention that they have achieved from their obscure blog. Lee deactivated her Facebook profile after receiving too much friend requests, but it is now back up, together with Tan’s which was never down.
Lee revealed that they were first acquainted through chatting on Facebook. “He’s an interesting guy. He’s intelligent, funny, and smart.”
The couple later started by posting censored nude photos on Tan’s profile on the social network, but decided to take a more public forum due to content restriction rules on Facebook.
According to Lee, she didn’t hesitate at all when Tan suggested opening their sex blog, and soon they were getting many hits, mostly from the United States and overseas.
In their sex blog, Lee and Tan shared sexually explicit photographs and videos depicting the couple in various states of undress and sex acts, all of them taken in various places in Malaysia. The images vary from artistic portraits of the couple, to close-up shots of their genitalia.
“We took each other’s photos,” Lee said.
Three videos shared on the Sumptuous Erotica blog included what was described by them as their “first pornographic video.” According to them, the six-minute video was “shot and edited within an hour and written based on an intriguing theme.”
The role-playing video depicts the couple in a rape fantasy situation, where Lee is “attacked” on her bed by an intruder. “It was Alvin’s idea; he thought it was different from all the other porn videos around.”
Asked if the video condones rape and misogyny in any way, Lee replied: “I’m not advocating or promoting rape, the video wasn’t meant to be taken that seriously.”
“Our rape fantasy was consensual thing... I don’t feel degraded, since we were just acting. It’s just like any other actors in a TV drama,” she added, saying that rape victims should never be scared to report their attackers so that they will receive just punishment.
Another video, which was taken from Tan’s perspective, shows Lee performing oral sex on her partner. The third video is an eight-minute third-person view of the couple having “hot sex in Kuala Lumpur.”
Despite negative comments on her appearance, Lee said she was comfortable with her body, as was Tan.
“I don’t feel insecure about myself,” she said, when asked on how she got her confidence. “It’s an inborn thing.”
While the blog has been taken down, Lee thought that the episode may inspire more Malaysians to be open with their sexuality.
“Be yourself,” she advised other sexually-active Malaysian women.
Lee is currently looking for job which matches her interests in design and art, while a NUS spokesperson confirmed yesterday that Tan will be investigated by the university’s board of discipline.

Lee, 23, and her boyfriend of six months Alvin Tan Jye Yee, 24, caused a cyber furore when their postings on their blog Sumptuous Erotica became viral and was caught on by the Singapore media.
“To us, the pictures on the blog were a work of art. We are open-minded people and we just want to share this with the world. We want them to see how pretty it was.”
Lee said she failed to understand why people had different perceptions on Asians when they posted such images in cyberspace.
“It is all right for Westerners to do this but not Asians. This is double standard. I cannot understand why people have to judge us.”
She said Asians should not be too conservative but be open about their sex life.
“There is nothing wrong talking about or having sex. It is a normal thing between two consenting adults. There should not be any stigma when a couple wants to talk or be frank about this. I cannot understand why this has to be blown out of proportion and sensationalised.”
Lee, who is staying with her parents in Johor Baru, said they never anticipated their blog to become so prominent overnight.
“It was not done for commercial purposes. It was simply for fun and love. When we started the blog in September, we got a small following, mostly from Westerners. But three weeks into the postings and after more pictures and videos were uploaded, Singaporean and Malaysian Internet users got wind of it, and in less than two days, the site went viral, followed by exposure by the Singapore media.”
Lee said they had no choice but to shut down the blog due to pressure from their parents.
“My parents were upset when they found out about it in the newspapers. I got the mother of all scoldings.
“However, they are calmer now and have fully accepted my actions.”
Lee appealed to the media to leave her parents and family alone and stop harassing them.
“They have nothing to do with this. Please don't haunt them.”
Lee said she was unafraid to face the consequences of her actions.
She would continue to live life “as though nothing had happened”, she said.
“I don't care about what people think or say about me or their perception of who I am. I don't care if men stare or ogle when I am out in public. Neither am I embarrassed for being the girl in the erotic pictures and videos.”
Lee, who just finished her business studies and is now looking for a job, said the uproar would not stop her from continuing her relationship with Tan.
“Instead, this would make our relationship stronger,” said Lee, who planned to visit her boyfriend in Kuala Lumpur soon.

Mr Tan, an Asean scholar and law student at the National University of Singapore, has been served a notice to appear before a varsity disciplinary inquiry later this month.
Speaking to reporters yesterday on the sidelines of an event, Dr Rais said, "We have legal redress under Section 233 and 263 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. But we would rather not use that first until and unless we get the results of what the Singaporean authorities are pursuing first."
Stressing that "we are not going to be quiet about it" when it came to taking action on the matter, he said this was the time for Malaysians to come forth and show that they did not condone such behaviour.
He, however, acknowledged that Mr Tan and Ms Lee's quick action in blocking further access to their blog by making it private was a good move.
"They were rather fast in acting and have blocked the access to the original display. Perhaps in this respect, they thought there was no more abuse under the law," he said.
Both Mr Tan and Ms Lee reportedly expressed little regrets in making their sexual life an open book.
"I see nothing wrong in posting the nude pictures and videos of our sexual relationship on the Internet. It was intended for the world to see how much we love each other. I cannot understand why people have to make so much fuss about this. It is our private affair," Ms Lee, who just finished her business studies and is now looking for a job, was quoted saying in a report in The Star Online today.
Ms Lee was also quoted as saying that the duo had no choice but to shut down the blog due to pressure from their parents.
Mr Tan, meanwhile, intends to keep recording the trysts. "My parents aren't really saying much about the morality of it. They are more concerned I will be in trouble with the law or my university. They aren't saying, "oh my gosh, this is so morally shameful"," he told the Star yesterday. AGENCIES

Tan Jye Yee told Yahoo! Singapore on Tuesday afternoon that he has
taken down his joint sex blog with his girlfriend "because there's been
too much trouble for this and we want to stay out of trouble".
Earlier, the NUS student said erotic photos and videos of himself and his girlfriend going viral was "exciting".
He had also said he is prepared to face the consequences of posting the sexual content on their personal blog.
On the site “Sumptuous Erotica”, Alvin Tan Jye Yee and Vivian Lee said
they love posting about their sex life on the web “for everyone to
enjoy” and that they upload only self-made content.
Some of the explicit photos posted on the website show the couple's
naked bodies or body parts, and one shows a bloodstained sanitary pad.
In an interview with Yahoo! Singapore on Tuesday morning, Tan talked
about why he started the blog and about facing the consequences of his
postings.
"One fine day, we were just fooling around and my girlfriend had the
idea of taking nude photos, just taking them, not necessarily uploading
them. With more and more photos that we took, we started to want some
sort of recognition for our work so we started uploading them on FB but
we blurred out the critical parts," he said.
As the photos kept on getting flagged and being taken down, he said they
started the blog near the end of September this year. It has since gone
viral.
He says he has "mixed feelings" about all the attention the blog has
gotten. "Part of me was worried about the real negative consequences
like whether I breached anything legal or how would NUS react to this,"
he said.
"Of course the other part of me feels it’s quite surreal. I can’t say
that I’m not excited," he added. "It’s not something you get to do
everyday, it’s something most people won’t get to do in their whole life
so that’s what I mean by exciting. It’s something different and
unique."
He and his girlfriend have even been approached by companies in Singapore to endorse sex toys and lingerie, he disclosed.
Tan and Lee, both aged 23 and both Malaysian, are in Malaysia now, and Tan has taken a leave of absence from school to pursue a daily deals business.
On 15 October 2012, someone anonymously asked the couple why they do
such things and their reply was, “Because we believe that there’s
nothing inherently wrong with sex."
"We don’t see why people who are sexually-active and/or being open about
their sex lives should be treated as sinners or criminals. Sex is a
natural reproductive process that really doesn’t deserve to have a
stigma attached to it. Close-minded people need to get over it," they
said.
On facing possible consequences, Tan, who is in his last year as a law student, said that NUS has not contacted him yet.
"So far so good. I wouldn’t say I’m not worried but I’m prepared for it –
to be expelled, for my scholarship to be taken away," he asserted,
adding that he is prepared for either or both as he has been on leave
from NUS for a year and a half. "I started my own firm and it’s doing
pretty well, so that’s actually my career plan anyway," he said.
He still want to come back to Singapore to finish his studies if he
can."I have some time right now so I want to do that but I’m not sure if
I’ll be allowed to do that anymore. I would definitely go back to
Singapore if I’m allowed to," he said.
Touching on the legal consequences of posting such explicit photos, he
explained that all the activities had taken place in Malaysia and the
postings had been done there.
"I know that also in law... if you’re not a Singapore national and you
committed a crime outside of Singapore then you are basically
scot-free," he said. "I don’t think I’ve contravened anything based on
my own legal knowledge."
He said his friends who have read an article from The Straits Times quoting a lawyer as saying Tan could face charges for breaching the Films Act for the explicit videos do not agree with that lawyer.
"I don’t think I’m in any legal trouble," he averred.
An ex-classmate of Tan from junior college was not surprised by the NUS
student’s behaviour. “He was very competitive in class, really smart and
outspoken but at the same time eccentric. He was just plain weird so I

According to an NUS spokesperson, the student concerned has been served a notice of Board of Discipline (DOB) inquiry.
The board will look into the matter and take appropriate disciplinary action against the scholar, who has also been advised to take down the offensive posts.

The Malaysians in Singapore seem to be

Another thought was that Alvin was sharing Vivian’s naked photos and sex videos without her permission because of a falling out but this does not appear to be the case. Both Vivian and Alvin are fully exposed on the blog and in the vids and pics without any attempt by Alvin to conceal his face. So this is a true sex blogging couple freely documenting their sexual encounters for pubic view of anyone willing to log on to the blog.
